Lanterns in the Endless Dark
I know there is life around other stars as well.
They say our sun’s a single spark, Among a billion in the dark A golden lantern softly spun, Inside the cosmos - only one And yet beyond our little sky, Where silent silver comets fly There blaze more fires than minds can name, Each burning with its ancient flame So how could we, on this small sphere, Believe that only life lives here? That all the wonder ever grown, Was planted solely for our own? Perhaps beneath some sapphire rain, A child looks up and thinks the same Perhaps through crimson fields of light, Strange flowers fold themselves at night Perhaps some distant ocean glows, Where no familiar creature knows The names we gave to earth and sea, Yet still they love. Yet still they dream. The universe feels far too wide, For life to bloom one single time Too full of music, dust, and chance, For only us to learn the dance And maybe every shining star, Holds someone asking who we are A quiet soul with hopeful eyes, Beneath their own enormous skies Oh, what a lovely thing to be: Not lonely in eternity But one small verse the cosmos sings, Among unending living things

April, I really appreciated how this holds wonder and humility together. The idea that we may be one small verse in something far larger carries a quiet beauty, because it invites curiosity without losing awe. What stayed with me most is the shared human question beneath it all: whether somewhere under another sky, someone is also looking upward and wondering. Thank you for writing with such imagination, gentleness, and expansive hope.
This lights me up! Thank you!
