The Fall of Giants
We may rise to the top, but nobody is able to stay there forever.
There was a time I reached a lofty place, A fleeting moment shining in the race For two short days I stood where few had been, Then watched it fade like it had never been And as I thought about the years gone by, Of kings and tyrants reaching for the sky I saw a truth repeated through the years: No throne survives, no ruler conquers fear The mighty march as though they’ll never bend, Convinced their power has no final end They build their kingdoms, boast of what they’ve done, Yet every empire sets beneath the sun The cruel and proud who thought themselves supreme, Are now just pages in a distant dream Their names once thundered through the world with might, Yet time reduced them all to dust and night For none are greater than the hands of time, No wealth, no fame, no mountain left to climb The strongest fortress someday starts to crack, And every path that rises circles back We all have moments when we brightly glow, And times when heavy winds refuse to slow The peaks and valleys come to everyone, A season lost, a season newly won So when success comes knocking at my door, I’ll cherish it, but won’t demand much more For every triumph, every crown we wear, Is just a passing breeze upon the air And when I stumble, broken, bruised, and small, I’ll remember giants also had their fall For no one’s weak forever, or strong always - We’re all just travelers passing through our days The truth remains, no matter rank or role: No one is invincible in soul We’re here a moment, then we’re carried on, Like morning dew that sparkles, then is gone

This is such a grounding perspective on success and struggle; it really puts the heavy seasons into perspective ✨
April, the line “No one is invincible in soul” gives this poem its clearest human truth. I appreciate the way you hold success and stumbling together without making either one final, because both triumph and weakness can tempt us to believe they will last longer than they do. The reminder that giants fall, seasons turn, and every traveler is passing through brings humility to achievement and hope to difficult places. Grateful for the steadiness of this reflection on how temporary every crown and every bruise really is.
