The Quiet Strength He Carries
I wrote this poem for my youngest son. My quiet rock in difficult times.
He was never one to chase the light, Or seek applause or constant sight He built himself in quieter ways, Through a steady heart and thoughtful days He keeps his feelings tucked inside, Where careful thoughts and worries hide Yet those who truly know his heart, Can see his kindness from the start His twin may walk a different road, Yet love still lives beneath the load Of growing up and finding space, While life keeps changing shape and place And his little sister looks at him, Like home is somewhere built within He’s always been her steady ground, The calmest comfort she has found He and his brother sometimes clash, Like storms that spark and quickly crash But even then, beneath the strain, His heart still wishes good - not pain He stands beside the ones cast out, The ones still filled with fear and doubt. He sees the hurt most pass right by, And never leaves it wondering why A tuba resting in his hands, Becomes much more than notes or bands He fills the silence rich and deep, With strength that doesn’t need to speak Through Scouts and years of growing strong, He’s learned where quiet hearts belong Not every leader shouts aloud - Some lead in ways that make us proud And though life placed more weight on him - Than many kids should carry in He met hard moments standing still, With steady grace and iron will He laughs the loudest with his friends, The side of him the silence bends A hidden spark, a joyful sound, Proof gentle souls still shake the ground And maybe he does not yet see - The man he’s slowly growing to be But goodness shows itself so clear, In how he walks through every year Not loud for praise. Not cruel to win. Just quietly strong, again and again He simply walks this world with grace, And leaves it softer in his place

Thank you for taking the time to read my words.

The closing lines carry the whole poem. Not loud for praise, not cruel to win, just quietly strong again and again. That is a precise description of a kind of character that rarely gets celebrated because it never demands to be noticed. The poem is basically making the case that the people who leave the world a little gentler wherever they go are doing something harder and more valuable than the ones who just make the most noise.
Beautiful! What a gift to those kids ❤️🩹
