The Wandering Spark
Oh the places our soul can journey 🪐✨
Some say we’re all that life can be, A lonely world in a silent sea But I look out through stars untold, And see a cosmos bright and bold I think of forests bathed in blue, Of crimson skies and oceans new Of beings shaped by worlds unknown, Each calling distant stars their home No two alike, no single mold, For life grows brave where it takes hold As roots bend deep through stone and clay, All creatures learn their planet’s way Some may drift through clouds of gold, Some hatch where frozen moons unfold Some breathe beneath electric skies, With forms that Earth could not devise And what of souls? I often wonder, What thread survives the final thunder? What spark remains when flesh is done, When setting stars replace the sun? I think our souls are ancient light, Travelers born of endless night Some young and bright with eager flame, Some old beyond a planet’s name For energy does not simply cease, It changes form, it finds release A current flowing far and free, Beyond one world, one shore, one sea Perhaps when our earthly journey ends, The soul sets out once more to wend Across the vast celestial dome, To distant stars and stranger homes For why should spirits, wild and free, Belong to Earth exclusively? The universe is far too grand, To hold one soul in one small land So when I gaze at skies above, I do not feel detached thereof I feel connected, spark to spark, A lantern shining through the dark And when my final breath has flown, I do not think I’ll be alone But carried onward, light unfurled, To walk once more in another world

April, this poem carries a real sense of wonder, especially in the way you let the cosmos feel alive with possibility rather than empty distance. The images of blue forests, crimson skies, frozen moons, and electric atmospheres give the poem its imaginative breadth, while the question of the soul gives it its emotional center. What feels most meaningful is the longing underneath it: the hope that life, connection, and light are larger than what we can see from one small place. Thank you for writing with such openness to mystery, beauty, and the ache of wanting the universe to feel less lonely.
Very lovely, and I agree. 😍
